ShareConnect UK began as a response to a simple injustice: tonnes of perfectly edible food being discarded every day while families across Scotland struggled to put meals on the table. We built the infrastructure to fix that β starting in Aberdeen.
ShareConnect UK is not a food bank app. It is a full redistribution management platform β connecting surplus food donors, reusable item donors, recipients, charities, and delivery riders in one integrated digital system.
Our mission is to make surplus redistribution the default behaviour for every supermarket, restaurant, and household in the UK β not an afterthought. We do this by removing every friction point: instant listings, automated matching, rider-enabled last-mile delivery, and real-time impact reporting.
Every kilogram of food redistributed through ShareConnect UK is a kilogram that does not go to landfill, a meal that reaches someone who needs it, and a measurable step toward the UK's net-zero commitments.
Aberdeen was chosen as the launch city deliberately. As Scotland's third-largest city, it combines a dense urban core with surrounding rural communities β a microcosm of the redistribution challenge the entire UK faces. The city's strong community networks, active food bank infrastructure, and growing tech sector made it the ideal proving ground.
In Aberdeen alone, an estimated 30,000 tonnes of food is wasted annually across the supply chain β from supermarket overstocking to household over-purchasing. Simultaneously, 1 in 7 households in the city experiences food insecurity. The gap between surplus and need is not a supply problem. It is a logistics and coordination problem.
ShareConnect UK was designed from the ground up as a coordination layer β not a charity, not a marketplace, but infrastructure. By connecting donors, recipients, and riders on a single real-time platform, we eliminate the coordination overhead that makes redistribution impractical at scale. The Aberdeen pilot proved the model works.
The Aberdeen pilot is the proof of concept. The UK expansion is the mission. By 2027, ShareConnect UK aims to be the national standard for surplus redistribution β integrated with NHS supply chains, major supermarket networks, and local authority food waste strategies across all four nations.
Our expansion is phased, deliberate, and community-led. Each city launch is preceded by local charity partnerships, rider network recruitment, and business subscriber onboarding β ensuring the platform is ready before it goes live.
These principles guide every product decision, partnership, and line of code we write.
Every interaction on ShareConnect UK is designed to treat donors, recipients, and riders with equal respect. No stigma, no barriers β just community.
Surplus food has a short window. Our platform is built for speed β live listings, instant notifications, and same-day delivery logistics.
Full audit trails, GDPR-compliant data handling, and food safety disclaimers ensure every stakeholder β from donor to regulator β can trust the system.
We are not just redistributing food β we are building infrastructure that makes waste reduction the default, not the exception, across the UK.
ShareConnect UK is built with and for communities. Local charities, food banks, and independent donors shape the platform's priorities.
From AI-powered demand forecasting to rider route optimisation, we invest in technology that makes redistribution smarter over time.
We build for the people who need it most, not the people who shout loudest.
Every feature must reduce friction for donors, recipients, or riders.
Data is a tool for accountability, not surveillance.
Speed matters β surplus food cannot wait for bureaucracy.
